Yan is a love interest in the book Heaven's Secret: Requiem.
About Yan
Yan is a mysterious guy who can make his first appearance in the story in two different episodes depending on the player's Adaptability path. In both scenarios he presents himself as part of a group that has arranged to meet with Dmitry's squad to help them reach the Adam base, located in Oxford.
In S2 Ep5 you discover that Dmitry was his General a long time ago. Yan was his subordinate, and they used to be pretty close until the Apocalypse.
In a diamond scene from S2, Ep6 Yan tells Lane about his scar. He says he was injured, wandered around various cities for help, and ran into a hive of infected. He thought it was his last day. In the same scene, he also confides to Lane that he didn’t live up to his father’s expectations. It was easier for his father to pretend Yan didn’t exist than to accept him as he was. Yan tried to fit in with his father, but he ended up losing sight of his real self in the process.
In S2, Ep8 Dmitry asks Yan what he is trying to achieve, why he decided to show up now, and if he decided to take revenge. Dmitry doesn’t trust him enough to just take him back to the squad. Yan responds that revenge doesn’t resurrect and that, even if Dmitry haven forgotten, they were friends and that he doesn’t blame him for anything - in which Dmitry says that he blames himself every time he sees Yan’s face. Yan says that he wants to help with the Book and that Dmitry can trust him.
In this same episode, in a diamond scene, Yan confesses to Lane that he wasn’t with the others who got attacked by the Cult at the beginning of S2; he got there after and couldn’t save anyone. Yan tells her he has been hiding for so long and didn't want to reveal that he is the demon hunter because he doesn’t want to be found, since people have begun praising the idea of the hunter, hoping for him, as if he were a national hero. He tells Lane he is doing it for personal motives that aren’t important. For him, the main thing is that he and the squad have common goals.
In S2, Ep9 it is revealed that Yan's father was part of the Order, and that he was a terrible father and disowned him. Portia, wife of a close friend of Yan's father, asks Yan in the last minutes of her life to not let the Order fade away, that it meant a lot to someone close to her and that many people gave their lives for its existence. She then asks him to be its new and final member - which Yan doesn't seem to appreciate.
In this same episode, Dmitry and Yan discuss what happened between them in the past. It is revealed that Yan and Pavel, another former subordinate of Dmitry, were wounded when they returned from a mission on the site of infection. Black veins were already showing on Pavel so Dmitry decided to shoot him in the head to save the others. Yan believes that Dmitry was cruel and did not think about the many years of friendship, shooting Pavel without a thought or second chances; and that he only survived because Dmitry missed the shot, leaving a scar on his face. After they fight, Yan realizes that Dmitry has been carrying Pavel's tag since that day. Dmitry then tells him that until he finds out which side Yan is on, he doesn't dare to talk about Pavel anymore.
In S3, Ep1 Dmitry decides to give Yan a squad dog tag. He wants to show that he is willing to try starting over, that he believes his old friend hasn’t turned into a monster, and that he is extending his hand to him. But after he sees Yan sewing dead skin from the abominations into his wounds, Dmitry tucks the dog tag into his pocket, probably regretting giving in to sentimentality as he was about to accept a person he knows nothing about, possibly endangering the squad, since abomination blood can turn a person into an infected. Yan tells him that after the abominations tore off his skin, the wound healed, but the area became keratinized, and it begins to come apart if he doesn’t fasten it. And nothing holds the edges together except the abomination’s skin, he already tried everything.
In a diamond choice of S3, Ep2 Yan tells Lane that he deserted the squad on the day Pavel died. He needed to disappear. But the scar on his face was too distinctive, so wherever he went, he was recognized. Because of that, Yan had to spend more time alone, and that is why he is glad to be among people again.
Relationships
- Lane (MC): Possible love interest or friend.
- Dmitry: General of the squad and his former friend.
- Pastor Agape: He knew Yan as a child. Yan’s mother sang in the church choir, and Yan’s father handed a premium bank card to Pastor Agape to give it to his son after he died. It was his father’s first and last gift to him.
- Raven: His friend. They met after Yan deserted from the squad.
Raven
You meet the raven in S2, Ep3. If Lane thinks he has such intelligent eyes, he helps her scape from an infected in a later episode. The raven has a little white spot on his wing. And he is plump, even though he doesn’t eat much.
If you choose Yan as your love interest in S2, Ep10, Lane finds that the raven was the only friend he had for a long time. Hiding from the whole world, Yan didn’t really have many people to choose from as comrades. The bird stays close to Yan and helps him by distracting the abominations. Yan interacts with him as if he were talking to a person. Lane thinks they kind of look alike.

Trivia
- Yan is tall.
- If you saw the demon hunter flyer in S1, Ep4 Lane asks Yan in S2, Ep2 if he knows anything about him. Yan says all he knows is he wears a cloak and a mask, that no one’s saw his face, and that he’s definitely surfaced in Oxford.
- In S2, Ep2 you can ask Yan:
- When exactly did the Cult appear? He says they first heard about it a day before your signal, that the cultists had killed some looters, but no one believed them – and that it was a mistake.
- Do you know anything about the cracked moon? He says Adam doesn’t send him reports. All he can say is that it looks nice, even being cracked. But he admits that it will be a little worse than the horrors you have already endured.
- Have you seen a symbol like this anywhere? He says he saw the symbol of the Order in one of the estates near Oxford. He tells you to ask the priest from Adam about it.
- In a diamond scene of S2, Ep4 Yan gives Lane a Camellia flower - fragile and cold - and an umbrella. Camellia is a poisonous, odorless flower that blooms in winter.
- Yan likes to help nature.
- He knows how to handle poison.
- His hands are bandaged entirely and haven’t felt anything for a long time.
- His mother sang in the church choir at the Adam base, but she died in a car accident before she could be proposed by Yan’s father. His father kept in a jewelry box in his mansion the wedding rings, a few newspaper printouts with her photo in the church and the article about her accident, and two unused travel tickets.
- Yan smokes cigarettes.
- He has some kind of confidence that everything will be fine that has a calming effect.
- He came from money, but he has a negative opinion about people with money. For him, there is nothing unusual about them, except for the desire to dominate everything around them.
- His father had refined taste, so refined that sometimes Yan doubts he had any at all.
- He is spontaneous and open.
- He never could accept that someone might actually like him. Pavel told him that day and night, but Yan thought his friend was all wrong because he always saw everything in the best light. Dmitry thinks if Pavel couldn’t convince Yan, then he certainly can’t do it.
- He never wanted to be part of his father’s work. Yan has difficulty with accepting someone who’d rejected him, leaving an unhealed wound.
- He became stronger after the incident with the infected. That day changed a lot in him.
