Renée de Noailles

The Main Character in this book is called Renée de Noailles, but the player can change her first name and appearances. Renée is the daughter of the Marquis de La Fayette, and although she is technically part of French aristocracy, her family is impoverished.

Versailles Court[]
Dowager Queen Anne
Dowager Queen Anne is mother to King Louis. A shrewd and powerful woman, she commands her own retinue.
Louise de La Valliere
Duchess Louise de La Valliere is the former mistress of Louis XIV and mother to his illegitimate children. She commands her own retinue.
Jean-Baptiste
The Minister of Finance. He seized power from his predecessor when he exposed his embezzlement. Alexandre describes him as "the only honest man in France."
Hugues
The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. Friend to Dowager Queen Anne. He negotiated the marriage between King Louis and Queen Maria Theresa.
Michel
The Secretary for War. He entered civil service as a lawyer. Alexandre describes him as "a man more esteemed than loved."
Jacques-Bénigne
The preacher to Gallic Catholics at court.
François de Villeroy
A member of the court who is suspicious of Renee at first. You have the option to befriend him throughout the story.
Paule Payen
Wife of Hugues, Paule and her husband have a contentious relationship.
Louis, Grand Dauphin
The son of King Louis XIV and Queen Maria Theresa, the Dauphin is the heir to the French throne.
Françoise-Athénaïs de Montespan
She joins the court and Maria Theresa's retinue in Season 2. Madame de Montespan is rumored to be very intelligent, competative and witty. She holds salons for women in her Parisian townhouse and, despite being married, wants to become the most important woman in France.
Nanette
Anne de Rohan-Chabot, Princess of Soubise, joins the court and Maria Theresa's retinue in Season 2. The 17-years old Nanette and Madame de Montespan are best friends. Her brother Lou becomes the new Master of the Hunt.
Lou
Louis de Rohan joins the court in Season 2 with his sister, Nanette. He is a Colonel-General for the Swiss Guard as well as the new Master of the Hunt.
Jules
Philippe-Jules Mancini, Duc de Nevers, joins the court in Season 2 when he becomes captain of the musketeers. He's known as a notorious womanizer but also dates men. Charles is his brother-in-law.
Hortense
Hortense Mancini is known as the most beautiful of the renowned Mancini sisters. She is the sister of Jules and before she married Charles, she was popular at court. Since then, she's had four children in five years and hadn't returned to court since her marriage.
Charles
Armand-Charles, the Duc de La Meilleraye and Prince de Château-Porcien, joins the court in Season 2. He's said to be the wealthiest man in all France, aside from the King. His wife is Hortense Mancini, one of Jules' sisters.
Gabriel de la Reynie
Gabriel Nicolas de la Reynie is the newly appointed Chief of Police for all of Paris in Season 3.
Olympia Mancini
Olympia is the Comtesse de Soissons, elder sister of Hortense and Jules Mancini. She appears first in Season 3.
Henri, le Duc de Piney-Luxembourg
Francois-Henri de Montmorency is a general and friend of the Prince of Condé. Renée meets him in Season 3.
Grand Condé
Louis II. de Bourbon, Prince de Condé, is a general involved in the Fronde Uprising against the young King Louis. He has been in exile ever since, but the King invites him back to court in Season 3.
Versailles Staff[]
Master of the Horse
The Master of the Horse is in charge of every horse in the King's stable.
Master of the Hunt
The Master of the Hunt is in charge of the kennels. A cruel man, he is betrothed to Bonne in Season 1.
Oliver
A Swiss Guard, part of the official royal protection unit of Versailles.
Manservant
A servant of Versailles.
Maidservant
Renee's servant.
André
André Le Nôtre, the principal gardener of King Louis.
Le Vau
Louis Le Vau is an architect hired by King Louis XIV to expand and improve Versailles.
Jeanne
A milkmaid who might become Renées second maid in Season 2, depending on the player's choices.
Charles de La Fosse
An artist who joins the court that, depending on the player's choices, Renée has the opportunity to become a patron for.
Page Boy or Urchin
Either a member of Renée's retinue or spy network, depending on the player's choices.
Lady's Companion or Courtesan
Either a member of Renée's retinue or spy network, depending on the player's choices.
Bodyguard or 'Tough'
Either a member of Renée's retinue or spy network, depending on the player's choices.
Madame Scarron'
The new nurse for the Dauphin in Season 3. She's a widow.
Renee's Family[]
Papa
MC's father, the Marquis Guillaume de La Fayette. He is a kind man who loves his daughter.
Aunt Suzanne
MC's aunt. She encourages MC to enjoy her time at Versailles.
Uncle
MC's late uncle Jean-René. He supported the rebellion against the young King Louis and was killed as a punishment.
Minor Characters[]
Peasant Woman
A woman who interrupts the King's performance to accuse him of killing her son in S1, Ep2.
Nicolas
A young bourgeoisie man who had a romantic affair with Renee three years prior to the start of the story.
Marielle
A young bourgeoisie woman who had a romantic affair with Renee three years prior to the start of the story.
de Montlezun
François de Montlezun is the warden of Bastille prison.
Englishman
The Englishman is questioned by Renée in the Bastille in Season 2.
Claude
The informant works covertly with Renée starting in Season 2.
Pons de Pons
Bonne's father.
Trinette La Voisin
A mystical woman who hosts salons and claims to communicate with the spirits. She appears first in Season 3.
Madame Bosse
A fortune teller and rival of Trinette's.
Creatures/Pets[]
Bostanji
Queen Maria Theresa's mischievous pet cat.
Wild Stallion
The King's new stallion introduced in episode 1.
Minette/Bijou
This kitten/puppy becomes your pet if you choose the diamond choice in S1E7. The cat's default name is Minette and the dog's is Bijou, both can be renamed. Its sprite changes over the course of the story as the pet grows.
Darius
Bonne's pet dog.
Belle
This horse becomes yours in S1E8. The horse's default name is Belle but can be renamed.
