Vying for Versailles is the 27th book released on the mobile game Romance Club. This book was released in September 2022 and finished in January 2024. The author of this book is Langley H., who is now writing 7 Brothers.

Plot Summary[]

As the impoverished daughter of a minor aristocrat, how will you gain independence and find love in the scheming court of Louis XIV in Versailles?

This book takes place in an alternate universe where the Crusades and Reconquista never occurred. While it is based on the historical events of 1660s Versailles, national boundaries and religions differ substantially; characters, motivations, and specific events may differ as well.

In this book you play as Renée de Noailles, the twenty year-old daughter of the Marquis de La Fayette. The events start in 1665 when the King's valet, Alexandre Bontemps, considered the second most important man in France after the King himself, blackmails you into joining the Sun Court to help him manipulate the court in favour of the King's interests.

Gameplay features[]

Most choices you make for your Main Character in this book influence one of the following variables: Altruism 🍃 (helping friends and family, serving King and country, and giving without regard to consequence), Calculation ♟️ (considering what's best for yourself and others, cleverly and patiently thinking out moves in advance), and Hedonism 🍷 (embracing the moment and the senses, pleasing yourself and others).

Your reputation in court will influence two additional stats for Season 2: Bright Influence ☀️ for a good reputation and Dark Spycraft 🌑 for a bad reputation. In contrast to other stories, having a bad reputation is not a punishment, just a different way to approach matters at court with a more outspoken and independent MC.

These choices change the story, the interactions you have with other characters and the scenes you will be able to play.

Tips about paths

  • The Altruism stat relates to loyalty to your family and to France and working for ideals selflessly that are larger than yourself.
  • The Hedonism stat relates to embracing the moment and eagerly pursuing opportunities, flexibilities, and the pleasures of the court.
  • The Calculation stat relates to valuing intellectual advantage and strategically making decisions, schemes, and manipulations at court.
  • The three stats in Vying for Versailles relate to decision-making and motivations, but these can change what you discover, how you discover it, and character reactions to you.
  • The Reputation stat changes based on how the court perceives your public actions, which alters how your character can gain power and how other characters treat her.
  • Your Bright Influence and your Dark Spycraft achievements will continue to change how you perform your work in the court and how you gain power throughout Season 2.

Tips about gameplay

  • If you are pursuing the King's mistress path, you must maintain a good reputation.
  • The retinue selection at the beginning of Season 1 will impact your story throughout all three seasons.
  • Although you can make friends outside of your retinue, conversations and opportunities to socialize will primarily happen within your retinue.
  • Your retinue will change which opportunities are easiest to pursue over the course of the story and each retinue has benefits and drawbacks.
  • The achievement you unlock at the end of Season 1 will impact how you interact with others and how you pursue advantages in Season 2.
  • Your dominant stats, your reputation in court, and your Season 1 achievement will be amongst the factors that impact your story's endings.
  • There are hidden relationship stats for friendships that determine who speaks to you, helps you, and why.
  • Your interest in marriage selection in Season 1 Episode 1 will change how relationships evolve in Season 3.
  • In Season 2, you will have the opportunity to pursue multiple love interests—but some love interests may or may not like this depending on who you pursue.
  • If you are not in an open relationship, love interests will not appreciate it when you pursue affairs--if they find out...
  • In Season 2, selecting the adjoining room will open additional premium scenes, including scenes of increasing intimacy throughout the entire season.
  • In Season 2, in addition to your love interest, there will be relationship tests that will open up options for other characters if you choose to pursue them.
  • You will have more chances to form friendships in Season 2.
