Volot is a love interest in the book And the Haze Will Take Us.
About Volot[]
Volot is a young priest who protects the village by performing rituals and making sacrifices. He is able to walk through the Haze and often does so.
When Volot was ten, koshcheis came out of the fog and killed his father who wanted to help the villagers. His mother begged them to take her away and spare her son, and the koshchei agreed. Before she died, Volot's mother gave him her lunula amulet which he wears until this day. A koshchei touched little Volot's forehead and spoke "Hear it." - even since then, Volot has been able to hear the call of the Haze, and his hatred for it has been relentless.
People from the village fear and avoid Volot. He lives with Sirin, a young woman with a similar fate. Lada first visits their house after her sister Vereya dies, taking over her tasks and bringing felt to Volot in exchange for meat. When the priest notices Lada's changed birthmark, he starts worrying about her. Because the girl is able to see and hear things that others don’t, the High Priestress suggests that Lada becomes the student of her grandson Ozar, the village's Magus. After Volot starts getting visions about killing Lada, tries to keep his distance to protect her, but she gets the same visions as well and confronts him about it. As it turns out, Volot and the Priestess are looking for a well and plan to revive the gods.

If you can reach it, you'll stay there forever. [1]
