Victor Van Art is one of the two main love interests in Moonborn in terms of screen time and amount of interactions with Mia, the main character you play as.

About Victor

Mia meets Victor at a mysterious masquerade party, when he protects her from another vampire who is attacking her. They meet a second time when Mia is once again running away from danger and he helps her once more, revealing his identity to her by accident when his vampire instincts make him reacts strongly to the sight of her blood.

Pursuing a relationship with Victor will affect future relationships with other characters. If you decide to romance him - although you will have a chance to break up with him in Season 2 - certain scenes/options with other future Love Interests will either not be available at all or will be cut short. If you decide to break up with him, you won't have the option to get back together.

Please note: Victor's preference in the bedroom is close to BDSM, as he likes to be dominating and will ask Mia to obey him completely and do things such as holding a thorny rose with her bare hand. None of his diamond scenes are particularly graphic, and he also has an extremely romantic side (think softly bathing Mia with a sponge, bringing her to expensive restaurants, slow dancing, naming a tulip after her or hiring people to throw flower petals from the roof of her office building so she can experience rain on a hot day) but if a certain type of dom/sub sexual interaction is not your cup of tea, Victor might not be the right Love Interest for you.

Mia and Victor's relationship throughout the book is very close. Whether they become lovers or remain just friends, Victor is constantly at Mia's side, trying to help her solve the many mysteries happening around her and supporting her in thwarting the plan for world domination from the book's main antagonist.

Victor has three possible endings according to your choices: he can survive while not being in a relationship with Mia, he can survive and be in a relationship with Mia, or he can die protecting Mia. His life is in danger if you don't have enough relationship points to save him when he is mortally wounded. Please note that if you are pursuing any other love interest or you are single, Victor's life will not be in danger as it will be Max to hurt himself trying to save Mia.

Biography

We learn about Victor's childhood from Noel in a diamond scene in Season 5, Episode 2. Victor was born in a castle in Belgium around 1865, the son of François and Jacqueline Van Art. François was a Belgian aristocrat and was sent to serve as diplomat in China, bringing Victor and his mother Jaqueline with him. Noel was travelling across Asia and befriended the Van Art family. Unfortunately, Victor's parents died during a typhus outbreak. Victor was a late child and as such he remained alone. Noel adopted him and they returned together to Europe.

Victor was very smart and quickly figured out that Noel was not human. As soon as he reached the proper age, he asked Noel to turn him. He was dead set on being turned, and Noel agreed with it because he wanted to show him the vampire world.

We learn more about Victor's past in a diamond scene in Season 5, Episode 7, when Victor brings Mia to his family castle in Belgium. Victor tells Mia that he became a vampire quite early on. As every teenager, he couldn't wait to become independent. After pestering Noel for a long time, he finally could celebrate his adolescence as an immortal. He liked everything about vampire society: their exclusivity, their lifestyle, their ability to meaningfully affect the world.

As years passed, he made the right connections. Despite the constant power struggles, vampire society was kind to him, and he entertained himself with scheming and feeding his own ambition. Despite his young age, his opinion carried weight and he found it flattering. His vampire powers were not very well developed yet, but he quickly learned to manipulate others. He made many friends, but also many enemies, as many vampires were not pleased with how quickly he was rising through the ranks.

Victor's first love was a human woman called Allegra. They met at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, while Victor and Noel were living in the Netherlands. He fell completely in love with her and they were due to be married. She had agreed to be turned into a vampire on their wedding night as her wedding present from Victor.

Unfortunately, the Prince of the Netherlands at the time, who felt threatened by the fact that Victor was gaining a lot of influence in vampire society despite being young and almost not feeding on human blood, wanted to show how unworthy Victor was and planted a bomb in the car who was due to bring Victor and Allegra home from the wedding venue, planning to assassinate them both.

There weren't many guests invited to the ceremony, and Allegra's family wasn't even aware of who Victor was. Allegra was taking a while to arrive so Victor went outside to meet her: her car pulled up, he opened the door, and in that moment the bomb exploded. He later learned that the bomb was supposed to go off after the ceremony, killing them both when they were going home, as the driver had been bought off, but the driver saw him and thought it would be less risky that way. The explosion was very powerful so it was clear that whoever hired the driver had not planned to keep them alive.

Allegra was killed instantly in the explosion, while Victor, being a vampire, survived long enough for his close friend Arthur to run out to the car and remove the glass and car fragments from Victor's body, allowing his vampire regeneration to heal him. Victor feels guilty about Allegra's death, as he thinks she died because he was not able to protect her from his enemies.

Mad with grief, Victor vanished for a while. About that time, he only tells Mia that he started drinking blood, a lot of it, sometimes to death, sometimes not, for a few years. Noel tried to stop him but he did not let him. He says he killed many and Mia realises that Victor still feels guilty about it, as clearly vengeance did not help him. Mia feels very sorry for his pain and loneliness.

We know a little more about this time in Victor's life from what Dante Guerra tells Mia in a diamond scene in Season 3, Episode 7. Dante says that he heard that Victor and Noel disappeared after the accident for a while together (Dustin was not born yet) and Victor came back stronger and more dangerous. The rumour is that Victor visited several warzones, as at the time there were plenty of them, and took advantage of the abundance of blood feeding on soldiers, becoming stronger in the process. Victor then killed the Prince of the Netherlands. Everyone thought Victor would then take the title for himself, but he gave it to his friend Alain Ravel instead, who's still today the current Prince of the Netherlands and Belgium. People wanted Van Art to be Prince, and Ravel was a bit nervous about it too, but Victor left to the US instead. Ravel is almost a friend to Victor, but when Victor goes back to Europe, all European Princes get nervous about it.

We get a little more insight about the European vampires' power struggles in a conversation with Xander in Season 5, Episode 3. Xander tells Mia that Victor is a very powerful vampire, and many counted on the fact that he was going to take the place of the Prince of the Netherlands. Many of the vampires that were loyal to him were not happy with the fact that he stepped aside and gave that position to Alain Ravel instead. But Victor does not want to start a conflict with Ravel. Xander also confirms that that the European Princes got worried when Victor travelled to Prague because, aside from the Ashe clan, there's no official local Prince there, so they wondered if Victor was planning to come back from his voluntary exile and settle there - although we know he was there just to help Mia in her quest.

At the present day, Victor is very wealthy and occupies most of his time by engaging in various artistic endeavours. In Season 1, Episode 5, Mia has a chance to find the recording studio he keeps inside his house, and she discovers that he has been ghost-writing songs for decades for some of the most famous musical artists in the world, such as Edith Piaf, Elvis, Jim Morrison, Johnny Cash, Prince and Whitney Houston. Victor shows her the studio again in Season 3, Episode 1. Mia asks him if he has ever been tempted to get out of the shadows and claim some glory for the music he writes, but he says he has never been tempted because when you are immortal you are not worried about leaving a legacy nor about fame or money. He says that Benny Bart is an exception to the rule. He also tells Mia that he composes music mostly for fun and does not earn much money from it.

During a diamond scene with Dante Guerra in Season 3, Episode 4, we learn that Victor's wealth comes from the fact that he has a large share in a construction company in Asia that specialises in restoring European architecture, plus he owns many paintings that are exhibited in museums around the world.

Victor is secretive and reserved and aside from spending time with Dustin and Noel, he tends to be a loner. He is not really interested in the party scene like other vampires such as Monica, Benny Bart or Dustin, and the only reason he went to the masquerade party where he met Mia was because Noel and Dustin had encouraged him to step out of his comfort zone, as they were worried he was still mourning the loss of Allegra after so long. Noel and Dustin are happy he met Mia at first, as they thought she could provide some well needed distraction, however they quickly grow wary and hostile towards her because they think she is causing too much trouble and putting Victor's life in danger too often.

Victor speaks over 20 languages, and when Mia asks him which one he considers his mother tongue he responds that it's difficult to say for certain because his father spoke Dutch and his mother spoke French. He also spent most of his childhood in China so he considers Chinese Mandarin one of his first languages too. If you decide to romance Victor, in the very last episode you'll see him teaching Mandarin to Mia.

Victor loves tranquillity, reading and drinking tea and wine. He tells Mia that life consists of ordinary moments, and these are the ones that are really valuable. Despite being seemingly quite cold, he has a soft side that he shows to Mia, for whom he cares very much regardless of whether she chooses to pursue a relationship with him or not.

When Mia asks Victor about his family, he tells her that it's just Dustin, Noël and him. He remember his parents, while Dustin does not remember his original family. Noël was married but his wife died a long time ago. Her name was Emma and she was a vampire but Victor does not explain how her death happened nor how much he knew her.

Victor used to drink human blood in the past, but no longer does so. He tells Mia he killed people and seems regretful about it, however he also says that he only killed people he thought deserved to die. He only drinks animal blood now and has to leave occasionally to go on hunting trips to drink blood to keep his strength. Victor tells Mia that the older a vampire is, the longer he can go without blood. If a vampire lives on the blood of animals, they need to drink more often. A vampire who does not drink blood for a long time becomes "hungry", hence dangerous, and driven by a hunter's instinct.

Victor is very powerful in terms of physical strength and fighting skills, as well as intelligence and deduction skills, however after the ordeal he went through in the Netherlands at the time of Allegra's murder, he is no longer interested in having a position of power within vampire society. Despite this, he is feared and more than one Prince is uneasy with his presence on their territory. Despite his reluctance, if he survives this book, he will be taking on the position of Prince, replacing Ethan Wood as the head of the local vampire society. He will also open his own night club, called New Life.

If you are on his romance path, Victor says that thanks to Mia he is learning to care again about life, as she makes his heart beat again, and he had forgotten how that felt. He also tells her that she is like quicksilver, impossible to keep in a closed fist but only on an open palm. Victor calls Mia "my sweet" or "my angel". He will propose to Mia with a diamond ring at the very end of the book, telling her she's the meaning of his life and everything he exists for. He offers her his heart, which is already hers, and his hand, which will always be there to support her. Mia responds by telling him that she does not want to have any dream without him in it. Victor asks her to close her eyes and feel the eternity: even out there he's going to be beside her.

Relationships

  • Mia (MC): Friend or girlfriend, depending on your choices.
  • François and Jacqueline Van Art: Victor's parents are not shown in the story; however, if in Season 1, Episode 3 you pick the "Examine the living room" option when waking up in Victor's home, you will see a black and white picture of them on his mantelpiece.
  • Max Fall: Acquaintance. Despite the tension between vampires and werewolves, Victor and Max will work together to help Mia.
  • Noel Miller: Father figure and mentor. Noel met Victor as a child and turned him when Victor reached adulthood and asked him to do so. He has guided and educated him and Dustin on everything a vampire must know to survive. Victor calls him father out of respect, although they are not related.
  • Dustin Chase: Brother figure and friend. Dustin is younger than Victor, but he was also turned by Noel, who Dustin also considers a father figure. Victor and Dustin's relationship is very close, as they would do anything to help each other. Victor is very protective of Dustin despite their occasional differences in opinion, especially when it comes to Mia.
  • Arthur: Close friend. They have known each other for over a hundred years and Arthur saved Victor's life when he was badly injured during the car bomb attack that killed his first love Allegra on their wedding day. He then helped Victor overthrow the Prince of the Netherlands, who was responsible for the assassination.
  • Sofia: Close friend. As a person very close to Arthur, Sofia is also close to Victor.
  • Xander: Friend. As a close friend of Arthur and Sofia, Xander also has a good relationship with Victor.
  • Patrick: Friend. If Mia is forced (by a lack of stat points) to 'sell out' Patrick's secrets to the vampires in Season 4, Episode 7, her relationship with Victor deteriorates, implying that Victor cares about Patrick on a personal level.
  • Ethan Wood: Acquaintance. Victor respects his authority as a Prince and considers him quite progressive. Despite the fact that when he moved to the US Victor promised Ethan he was just looking for a quiet place where to live with his brother Dustin and father Noel, Ethan feels threatened by Victor's presence on his territory.
  • Benny Bart: Acquaintance. Victor will introduce him to Mia but Dustin seems to be closer to Benny than he is.
  • Monica: Acquaintance. She has a romantic interest in Victor, but her feelings are not reciprocated.
  • Dante Guerra: Acquaintance. Dante knows about Victor's life but confirms that the two aren't close.
