Vanadis is a love interest in the book Path of the Valkyrie.

About Vanadis[]

Vanadis is an old friend of Sagr and resides in Bjerkanar.

She is very beautiful and has many suitors. To avoid too much attention, Vanadis spread the following rumor about herself: "There once lived a fair and unconquerable maiden, by name of Vanadis. Her hair was like spun gold, and her eyes rivalled the summer sky itself. She was kind and welcoming, good-hearted, and smart. The best man of the whole land came asking for her hand in marriage. But nobody melted her heart. Until one day Sigurd, son of Ulv, came to woo her. He offered Vanadis riches untold, and this angered Dagrun, the Snake Witch, who long had her eye on Sigurd. Dagrun summoned all her snakes and braided them into the Snakespear. Vanadis's beauty and Dagrun's own greed blinded her. So she cast the spear at Vanadis and pierced her clean through. And so it happened that Vanadis turned into a white birch with leaves of pure gold. There are rumors that when the leaves on the birch turn green, the worthiest of men will pull the Snakespear out and Vanadis will come back to life."

Through Sagr, Vanadis meets Liv, a human from Midgard, and becomes part of their group in search of Mimir. After discovering that Mimir is dead, they are given a mission from Odin to find the killer. Andvari, a dark elf, leads them to the Tower where his friend, the maker of the spear that killed Mimir, is said to reside. After being attacked by a stone guard, Vanadis gets separated from the group. When they meet again, Liv and her friends discover that the short time they spent apart were actually years for Vanadis because time flows differently in the Tower. While she was alone, she met Isangrim, an older occupant of the tower, and with his help she learned how to use her powers. After leaving him, Vanadis lived by herself in a swamp near a village, hiding her face behind a mask and being referred to as the White Witch. Time has hardened her, and it takes Vanadis some effort to open up to Liv and her friends again.

Sagr: Old friend. Sagr had been in love with her but Vanadis didn't return his feelings. However, they still care about each other.
Dagrun: A close friend.
Freya: Mother. They are not close.

Trivia[]

Sagr had admitted to Liv when he was young and stupid, he thought that he would plant an entire garden for Vanadis and her heart would thaw for him.
