About Sunny[]

Sunny is a young woman crossing paths with Lori Kaplan at the beginning of the story. She is based out of Ketchikan and grew up at a lighthouse. She has a reputation as a drifter but actually keeps an eye on the fish in the area which includes recording data and checking sensors. She travels on the Dreamspinner and has a pet otter called Baku who always follows her around.

Sunny's described as an introverted and stoic personality with an effortless yet intense air to her. She has a hard time opening up to people and doesn't really do relationships, but softens after getting close to Lori. She helps the young skipper with dangerous situations and proves herself to be a pragmatic and brave woman.

As the story progresses, Sunny confesses to Lori that she sometimes wakes up screaming at night, suffering from severe PTSD. She grew up at the Cape Decision lighthouse and one morning, rafters showed up, slaughtered her family and burned the house down - Sunny only survived because she hid from them. After that, she went to Sitka to fight rafters, losing a lot of the friends she made there. Ever since then, Sunny has been pretty closed up, but Lori manges to get through to her more and more. When the supply ship Aquila crashes during a storm, Sunny accompanies Lori and her friends on a dangerous journey to move the supplies all the way up the line to Anchorage. She confesses to Lori that she's done therapy before but it didn't work out for her. Feeling secure in their relationship, Sunny promises to try again with Lori's support when their trip is over,
