Sin is a love interest in the book The Flower from Tiamat's Fire.

About Sin[]

Sin is introduced as one of the students at the magic academy. Unlike most students however, it is unclear just what type of magic he has. He is shown to be a loner who skips classes and stays away from everyone expect Nikkal, whom he helps with her search for her missing brother.

Near the end of the first season, it is revealed that Sin is actually Kingu, a powerful mage and one member of the Five. As Tiamat's son and the General of her army, he's the embodiment of Chaos itself and possesses special magic. After his mother got defeated, Kingu was held captive in a cave for many years but eventually joined the other four children of Tiamat (Enki, Shamash, Enlil and Ishtar). The Four even took his amulet away, a gift from his mother that allows Kingu to use Chaos without his body rotting alive. The pearl, an important part of the amulet, makes him unreasonable but very strong and helps him turn into a dragon. By taking this power source away, they hoped to kill him, but Kingu invented a ritual to draw power from Tiamat’s heart, prolonging the lifes of the Five, and got his amulet back in exchange.

Half a century ago, things escalated when Kingu's girlfriend Ningal, after being tricked by Enki, stole the amulet in order to destroy the dragon, the part of Kingu she never came to accept. She gave it to Nikkal's mother Asme, a far relative, and beged her to keep it safe. Later, Ningal was killed and Kingu moved on - he still misses her, but knows that she never really loved him because she wasn't able to tolerate the dragon inside of him; it's more of a guilt that he cannot let go of. After looking for the amulet and meeting young Nikkal at her family's home, Kingu decided to leave the amulet with them because it helped Asme with her mental issues and would make it easier for him to hide. He gave young Nikkal a Chaos flower, serving as a connecting bond to always let him know where the pearl is.

During the story's first season, Kingu runs from the Ziggurat. He befriends Nikkal by posing as a student of the magic Academy because unknown to her, her family has been supporting the cult of Tiamat for generations. While helping her looking for her missing brother Ethan who knows about the amulet's whereabouts, he and Nikkal become closer and he eventually lets her in on some of his secrets.

After following Nikkal to the capital, Kingu gets arrested during a run-in with the bloodhounds. The Four imprison him in the same cave once again, on a small island surrounded by the river Hubur. This river serves as the best weapon against mages because it allows no magic and no connection to Chaos, basially leaving Kingu powerless. After Nikkal gets the amulet's pearl from her parents, she and Kingu are able to communicate through it. He's warning everyone to not participate in the ritual that draws power from Tiamat's heart because is convinced that it will disturb her sleep and cause her to finally wake up again. After being freed, he helps Nikkal and her friends who plan to fight against Tiamat because he doesn't want his world to die and remain alone in a dead wasteland. While Tiamat starts to wake up more and more, Kingu has trouble fighting the dragon inside him who is striving to reach its master.

Sin/Kingu comes across as calm and mysterious. What may be interpreted for aloofness is more his awkward nature in relationships. With Nikkal he is shown to be protective and caring.

Iyar: A teacher at the Academy. When he was hunted by the Four, Kingu saved his life.
Niall: The Academy's warden. He is Enki's son and has been helping Kingu by taking Iyar in.
Tiamat: Kingu's mother who was defeated by Enki, Shamash, Enlil and Ishtar.
Ningal: His deceased ex-girlfriend.
Ethan: A worshipper of Tiamat who knows about his amulet's whereabouts.

Kingu traveled all over the world for almost three hundred years, observing the lives of ordinary people and trying to analyze the patterns of hereditary magic. In this long journey, he managed to save many lives but also greatly annoyed the rest of the Five.

Possible ending[]

If Nikkal convinces Tiamat to spare the world and saves Kingu, they get married and have a daughter named Ashtu. She is a dragon too, like her father, and inherited Nikkal’s strong personality. The mages follow Nikkal’s lead, and with the help of Ashurbanipal, she unites them with the humans.
If Nikkal convinces Tiamat to spare the world but doesn't save Kingu, Nikkal mourns him. The mages follow her lead, and with the help of Ashurbanipal, she unites them with the humans.
If Nikkal doesn't convince Tiamat to spare the world but saves Kingu, they stay together. The mages lose all their power and don't unite with the humans. Thirty years later, Nikkal and Kingu are still a happy couple but don't have any children. Mages and humans continue to be divided, and Nikkal gets blamed for everything that had happened. In the end, Chaos comes and destroys the world.
If Nikkal doesn't convince Tiamat to spare the world and doesn't save Kingu, the mages lose all their power and Nikkal has to deal with her nightmares and guilt all by herself. After thirty years, Chaos arrives and tears down Tiamat's barrier, destroying the world.
