Prince Philippe de France is a love interest in the book Vying for Versailles.
About Philippe[]
Philippe is the King's brother. He has four possible looks that are decided in automatic when you pick the main look for his brother, Louis XIV. Renée meets him when she joins the Sun Court in Versailles. The Prince is only second in line for the throne, first would be Louis' son, the Dauphin.
When he was a kid, Philippe always wanted to be like his older brother. Their mother didn’t want them to be friends and was afraid of them becoming competitors. The Prince remembers that she always saw him as a threat to his brother, never a help to him. At the age of five, he was humiliated for trying to scribble letters as he had seen his brother do, and Philippe's tutors were instructed not to teach him how to read in order to keep him from possibly organizing a rebellion. Everyone at court still thinks he’s illiterate, but Philippe confesses to Renée that he taught himself to read with a book from his nurse which he memorized, pairing words from his memory with what he saw on the page. Despite all that, Philippe loves his brother and is nothing but loyal to him. He always wanted to be called on to protect his brother, and still hopes to serve France some day.
Today, Philippe is renown for throwing parties and for having many friends and lovers. He was due to marry Henrietta in an arranged marriage but she was caught having an affair with his brother Louis, and the wedding was called off. Philippe is openly bisexual and involved with Henrietta, Armand, and the Chevalier Philippe; prior to his relationship with Armand, Philippe had an affair with his sister Catherine. According to Armand, Philippe may seem aloof and amused, but he’s more fragile than people think; he’s a good-natured, kind and generous man. His mother Anne feels like he's more vulnerable than he seems and often subject to manipulation.
As Philippe and Renée get closer, the Prince has to decide if he will turn to arts or the military. If the player chooses the former, he ends up organizing a successful exhibition and becomes a patron of the arts. Thanks to Renée’s support, Philippe is seen as a man in his own right, with his own accomplishments. She also gets him and his brother to talk about their past and reunites them.

Possible endings[]
- If Renée asks for Louis' blessing to marry Philippe, the King says he had hoped his brother would make a political marriage, but in the end he agrees. Philippe then proposes to Renée and they get married seven months later.
- If Renée doesn't ask for Louis' blessing to marry Philippe or if he doesn't propose for other reasons, they still stay together and support each other's work and dreams.
- If Philippe and Renée are not romantically involved or broke it off, Philippe gets into an arranged marriage with Princess Elisabeth Charlotte of the Palatinate. He's unhappy in that relationship and continues his love affair with the Chevalier and numerous others.
