Onyx

Onyx is a love interest in the book W: Time Catcher. You can choose the gender of this character. You can also choose to have a monogamous or a polyamourous relationship with them and Tallis.

About Onyx

Onyx is an animamorph who is tasked with watching and protecting the main character before she can meet Vesper. First time Nova sees them is as a black cat on the balcony of her previous home.

Since Nova didn't know if the cat was male or female, she decided to name it Diversi. She believed that Onyx was Shen's familiar, until she discovered that in fact they don't get along.

Onyx is unbound (a cat who walks wherever they want) and occasionally take on assignments as they are excellent spies and can easily blend into the crowd. They have a room at Nest, Others' shelter, but rarely spends the night there – but also refuses to give up their space.

Despite being open and kind, they don’t have a deep relationship with anyone - until now at least. However, they are brave, and the star of any party, an attention magnet. Onyx knows how to cheer people up, and everyone loves them – except Shen. However, depending on your choices, Onyx's relationship with Shen may become warmer.

While female and male Onyx are the same person, there are slight differences in their behavior in the same situations. Female Onyx may be more playful with her friends and will be annoyed if you avoid her after getting close to her. Male Onyx, while still teasing and playful, seems to be more direct while speaking to other people and will be dejected if you avoid him after getting close to him.

Young Onyx was chosen by a cat with Presence who was nearing their death to transfer their essence to. For the cat, ritual is the way to be reborn. For Onyx, it was how they became animamorph. Onyx loves who they are. They say it is a special feeling to know that something in you attacted a powerful creature so much that they decided to become a part of you. When Onyx was teenager they would assume their full human form even though it was tiring. Only later they became more confident in their animamorph form - with cat ears and tails.

Onyx has very rocky relationship with their ill mother, but even though it only makes everything harder for Onyx, they still visit her. If they are your familiar, they admit to you that they live with conflicting feelings and actually do not feel sorry their mother is dying. They think a lot about the situation and it drives them crazy. If you are friends with Onyx, in Season 2, Episode 5, they tell you that letting people in is tough for them. They want to be known and seen, but it comes at a price, which for a long time they did not want to pay. They did not want to go through discomfort, fights, adjustments, doubts. You learn that their whole life they've had superficial and friendly relationships with most people, but they did not let anyone too close. Tallis was exception to that.

When Onyx learns Nova's secret, they feel distraught and enraged. They cannot believe she would betray their own kind. If they are your familiar, they are in disbelief that Nova still went through with bonding ritual knowing how everything would end. After that, they need some time to think it over before they start to understand her.

Relationships

Nova (MC): They are tasked with keeping an eye on Nova. They always flirt with her and their relationship and banter can remain friendly or become romantic.
Vesper: They do assignments for Vesper and work together in The Incineration Alliance.
Shen: They work together in The Incineration Alliance, but there is certain dislike between them since the begining and no one can settle this conflict.
Tallis: An animamorph (raven), and their friend or love interest. Depending on your choices, Onyx and Tallis can be a couple or enter into a polyamory relationship with the main character.
Chidiogo (Dee Dee): They have very friendly relationship and Onyx likes to spends time in her shelter.

They love attention, and sometimes they try to win it in unusual ways.
After drinking alcohol it becomes more difficult for them to restrain their feline instincts.
Onyx can sense and communicate with any animals with Presence and other animamorphs. They cannot communicate with Ordianry cats, though.
The Magisterium has a special department for trapping animals with Presence.
Cats needs up to sixteen hours of sleep.
If you have a close enough relationship (romantic or platonic) with Onyx you can ask them to become your familiar in Season 1, Episode 9. This choice will improve your relationship with them and they'll make appearances during the story as your familiar. Note that this is not mandatory to have a good relationship with Onyx, so you can choose another animal if you want it.
If you choose Onyx as your familiar, they tell you that, a long time ago, they told Vesper they had never get bound to anyone. But she was sure that someday, there would be a witch or a warlock that would change their mind.
One of Onyx’s powers is to cause pain when their eyes meet the opponent's.
Animamorphs have a strong resistance to animal poisons.
Before the events of the story, Onyx has never been outside of Rome.
Female Onyx is very good with plants, while male Onyx is anything but.
Onyx practices Yoga with Jorge two or three times a week.
Female Onyx used to dislike running in the human form, but she started liking it after some time. Male Onyx still dislikes it.
Female Onyx helps Chidiogo in her garden and she grew a forsythia there. Male Onyx was not allowed to help with her garden, but he made a table which was placed there.
Onyx helped with designing a card game.
Without the Initiation, animamorphs would not be able to completely hide their animalistic traits in human form at will (such as the ears and the tail), and their magical abilities in animal form would be less developed.^[12]
