Nikkal

Nikkal is the main character you play as in the book The Flower from Tiamat's Fire.

Her first name cannot be changed, but you can choose her appearance between four different ethnic features. More hairstyles, outfits and makeup will become available throughout the story.

Most choices you make for this character influence one of the following variables: you can follow the path of the Sword ⚔️ or the Fire 🔥. This will shape the way your MC will act and think during the story. You can also gain Willpower ⚡️ as you play. These choices change the story, the interactions you have with other characters and the scenes you will be able to play.

About Nikkal

Nikkal is a student at the magic academy. She's a fire mage but often struggles to understand and use her powers. Her goal is to find her missing brother Ethan and to figure out her fire magic along the way.

Before Nikkal and Ethan were born, their mother Asme was always scared of something, suffering from a mental illness. After having her children, she felt better and called them her protectors, but when they learned to use magic, everything changed and their mother thought Nikkal and Ethan were life eaters and wanted to kill her. The only thing providing some relief was a magic pearl amulet, given to her by her relative Ningal who asked Asme to keep the amulet safe from powerful mages. Young Nikkal met Kingu, one of the Five Children of Tiamat and the amulet's owner, when he came looking for it, and told him that her mother seemed happier ever since she received it. Kingu then decided to leave the amulet with the family and gave young Nikkal a Chaos flower, serving as a connecting bond to always let him know where the pearl is. When Nikkal was about ten years old, her powers combined with the Chaos from the flower made her burst into flames and her mother couldn't handle it, leading to Nikkal and Ethan being sent away by their father Lagash. The siblings ended up in an orphanage where they met the Su and Shimun and became close friends who supported and protected each other.

Five years later, the warden of the magic academy, Niall, came to the orphanage. Nikkal liked him immediately, went up to him and simply said „Take us!“. Niall became the friends' guardian and sent them to school, visited them often and brought gifts. He also checked their magic skills and enrolled them to the academy when it became clear that there was nothing more they could learn at a normal school.

Over the course of the first season, it is revealed that Nikkal's family has been secretly worshiping the goddess Tiamat for centuries. Her dad used to teach her brother Ethan about the cult surrounding the goddess and didn't tell Nikkal in order to protect her. When Ethan goes missing, Nikkal starts looking for him and gets help from mysterious student Sin, causing her to get into more and more trouble. In the end, Nikkal is expelled from the academy for constantly breaking the rules, but Niall takes her and Su to the capital Ur in order to find Ethan. As it turns out, he ended up in prison and is supposed to be sacrificed to keep the Five, the rulers of the mages, in power. When Ethan learns that the ritual will actually lead to Tiamat's awakening, he takes his own life.

During the second and third season, Nikkal visits Irkalla, the underworld, and faces The Five. She also meets Chaos and gains access to her true powers. When Tiamat starts to wake up, it comes down to Nikkal and her friends to form an army and try to prevent the goddess from destroying the world as they know it.

Nikkal is a lively and slightly awkward girl with a great sense of humor and storytelling skills. She's brave, stubborn and a bit childish, but curious and willing to dive into anything if this means getting what she wants. Nikkal is not very fond of studying for exams and doesn't always play by the rules.

Nanna: A fellow student who seems to like Nikkal very much.
Varassa: Nikkal's old friend, a human. They were together at the Children's Home before Nikkal joined the academy and Varassa moved to the capital. He's a blacksmith's assistant.
Asme: Mother of Nikkal and Ethan. She has mental health issues and became scared of her children when they started using their magic.
Lagash: Father of Nikkal and Ethan. He prioritizes his wife's wellbeing over their children and sent them away.

Kua the Horse

Nikkal gets to choose a horse from the Academy's stables in Season 1, Episode 6. She will either pay (💎17) for a special hair coat color or keep the simple Bay horse. The default name Kua can be kept or changed without paying diamonds. Over the course of the story, there are many possibilities to improve the relationship between Nikkal and her companion. All of them have been clearly marked on the walkthroughs, but here is a summary.

Her name means "Great Lady" in the ancient language.
Nikkal's biggest fear is loneliness. She's also afraid of walking up in a different place than where she fell asleep.^[2]

Possible endings

If Nikkal convinces Tiamat to spare the world, she works hard to reconsile mages and humans. Thirty years later, she and Ashurbanipal are finally able to declare sucess and come together for a Celebration of Unity. If Nikkal's Love Interest is still alive, she lives a happy life with them and, depending on who she chose, is married and has a child with them. If Nikkal lost her Love Interest or has been single all the time, she continues to work hard and achieve her goals.
If Nikkal didn't convince Tiamat to spare the world, the mages lose all their power and she gets blamed for everything that had happened. If her Love Interest is still alive after the battle, they stay together but don't have children. If Nikkal lost her Love Interest or has been single all the time, she has to deal with her nightmares and guilt all by herself. After thirty years, Chaos arrives and tears down Tiamat's barrier, destroying the world.
