Niall is a love interest in the book The Flower from Tiamat's Fire.

About Niall[]

Niall is the son of Enki, the most powerful of The Five children of Tiamat. With the help of his father's money, he founded the academy and became its warden. He used to live in the capital for a while, but found it too noisy. It's later revealed that he build the academy over the entrance to Irkalla, the Underworld, to protect its peace. A seal inside the building prevents unwelcome guests from entering this kingdom.

Niall was raised by his mother Ninhursag, a kind and patient woman, but always felt drawn to his father Enki, wanting his approval and love. Realizing that his father is a man who respects strength, Niall developed all the qualities Enki looked for in a son and became a General, serving for about 70-80 years.^[1] He was opiniated and overconfident, but also a smart and brave leader.

40 years ago, during the war against the humans, the Five's Shahmash ordered Niall to go on a suicide mission, together with a small squad. He sent them to lure the humans out of the the forest and promised to help as soon as the first defenses were down; but when Niall and his men broke throught, no one came. Shamash waited until they had destryoed all the anti-magic devices, and only then he appeared and killed all the humans. Niall’s entire squad died that day, including his friend Agga and Agga’s daughter Unzi. Niall survived but got severely hurt, resulting in the scar over his eye.

A few years later, while being stationed in a village near the border to the human lands, Niall started to get close to a blind woman called Erra, admiring her for being brave and strong-willed. He tried to protect the village against Shahmash's war plans, resulting in a big fight with a lot of casulties - including Erra. During her last moments, Niall used the help of forest spirits to create a spiritual bridge between Erra and himself, showing her how beautiful the world his. When he returned to the capital Ur, he found out that he was no longer a General, but his father gave him a chance to rebuild his reputation and entrusted him with the academy.

Niall's mother founded Ninhursag the Children’s Home Nikkal would end up in later. During the war, she kept crossing the border and picked up every child she could save, mixing mages and humans together to teach them unity and understanding. Ever since she died in a storm, Niall has been the official guardian of the Children's Home and financially supports it. Nahrain, a human woman who has helped his mother since the founding of the Home, became the head of the Home.

After Niall buried his mother, he lost his magic and wasn't sure how to go on. When he visited the Children’s Home for the last time, he met Nikkal, Ethan, Su and Shimun there and took them under his wing. He acted as their guardian, sent them to school and brought them gifts. He checked on their magic abilities and enrolled them at the academy later. Niall used to train Nikkal because she had trouble accessing her fire powers, and regained his magic due to these sessions.

Niall appears to be strict, but he also has a funny side. He's very protective when it comes to his students and takes their education very serious. Niall cares a lot about Nikkal and is not happy about her contantly breaking all the rules. He expells her from the academy but still continues to protect and teach her. In the second season, he offers himself to Ereshkigal in order to save Nikkal from an eternity in Irkalla. As the story progresses, he joins Nikkal and her friends in their fight against the rule of The Five and against the goddess Tiamat who threatens to destroy the world as they know it.

Erra: A blind woman Niall met while being stationed in her village. He admired her and tried to save her village from being destroyed by the war.

Niall's zodiac sign corresponds to Taurus.
Ursa, the writer, mentioned that Niall is 180cm tall.^[2] However, his profile on VK and Facebook states his height as 5'9 (175cm).
During the war, Niall's troops stopped in a small village, which was mostly inhabited by humans. Those living there believed that mages and humans should live in peace, and Niall met and befriended many of them. Later on, during a fierce battle, the mages accidentally destroyed that village. Niall personally buried each one of the dead. Among them, he remembered Erra the Blind the most.
The scar across Niall's eye is not the only one: He also has one on his chest, one on his ribs and another small one on his stomach.
Ursa stated that if Niall lived in the 21st century, he'd refuse to listen to music as "it messes with your feeling of your body and doesn't help with surrounding awareness".^[3]
Niall doesn't like thunder because it reminds him of war.^[4]
His favorite color is blue.
The developers redesigned Niall's appearance for the update in January 2022.

Possible endings[]

If Nikkal convinces Tiamat to spare the world and saves Niall, they get married in a rush. Thirty years later, they are still a happy couple and have a 17-year-old son named Anner. He has the wisdom and common sense of his father, and Nikkal’s determination. The mages follow Nikkal’s lead, and with the help of Ashurbanipal, she unites them with the humans. Niall is still the Academy’s warden and plans to expand the faculty to teach students not only magic but also peaceful coexistence with humans.
If Nikkal convinces Tiamat to spare the world but doesn't save Niall, Nikkal mourns him. The mages follow her lead, and with the help of Ashurbanipal, she unites them with the humans.
If Nikkal doesn't convince Tiamat to spare the world but saves Niall, they stay together. The mages lose all their power and don't unite with the humans. Thirty years later, Nikkal and Niall are still a happy couple but don't have any children. Niall is still teaching students and tries to show them how to peacefully coexist with humans, while Nikkal gets blamed for everything that had happened. In the end, Chaos comes and destroys the world.
If Nikkal doesn't convince Tiamat to spare the world and doesn't save Niall, the mages lose all their power and Nikkal has to deal with her nightmares and guilt all by herself. After thirty years, Chaos arrives and tears down Tiamat's barrier, destroying the world.
