About Lucien

Lucien is a vampire who Nova (MC) meets at Nest. He belongs to Constantino's clan and does assignments for their patriarch.

He was born in France and was transformed at 31 years old. It was his decision to become a vampire, along with his ex-wife, Agnès. They met during First World War and she was the daughter of the battalion commandant Lucien served under. He was attracted to her strong will and stubbornness that bordered on recklessness. She decided to take part in the fighting, but her father did not let her. Lucien was put on guard to make sure she did not run away and yet she still tried to. After this event they got closer and still exchanged letters after she was taken to Switzerland. They married in Switzerland and after the war they settled back in France. They both dreamed about becoming parents, but she couldn't conceive. She kept looking for adventures and all sorts of trouble, including attending parties hosted by vampires. After she and Lucien abandoned their hopes for a child, she convinced him to become vampires together. It turns out that she was actually pregnant when she received vampire poison, which induced miscarriage. However, the truth about her pregnancy and the fact she knew about it when she decided to become a vampire came out only few months later since she decided not to tell her husband about it. After that, their marriage fell apart as Lucien learned Agnès never actually wanted children. Lucien remarks that he would have never judged her for not wanting children if she was truthful about it and that he understands that society sets insane expectations on women and that it must have been difficult for her. They had to end their relationship as Lucien was able to forgive Agnès for lying, but he could not forgive her for inducing miscarrige on their future child through vampire transformation.

He spent around last 30 years in Italy, but he still prefers his motherland. He stays in Rome because of Constantino - he finds safety and security in belonging to a clan. He says that lone vampires face many difficulties, which include Order of Eternal Light.

Lucien is tactful and careful with immaculate manners. His qualities are well appreciated by his patriarch. So much so that he represents Constantino when it comes to cooperation with Vesper. It was her initiative the alliance with the vampires, but this collaboration is very new.

He is also straightforward, and because he is a vampire he has the stereotype that his every word could be deceptive – but he is used to play this role. He is studious and very used to doing research, which results in possesing knowledge about various topics. Art and literature are topics that allow him to connect with Nova.

When Lucien finds out Nova's secret, he is not upset at her and in fact, he finds it amusing that she is a spy. He was only upset (or disappointed if you are just friends) that he did not figure it out on his own. Since the beginning he sensed something about her, but he could not pinpoint what exactly it was. Yet, that made it way easier for him to accept her secret, no matter how close your relationship is. He also admits that since he is a vampire, he has to lie and hide all the time, so he does not feel reproach towards her for doing what she had to do to survive.

During the course of the story, as Lucien gets closer to Nova, he becomes more willing to disregard Constantino's orders, mainly when she is in danger. In Season 2, Episode 10, he shows up during Vatican mission to get Nova out of the fight by shadow travel even though his patriarch forbid him from participating in the operation and it had negative consequences for him, such as, being cast out of the clan. He cannot visit Nova, but if you romance him, he gives her hellebore in a glass dome - because in his words, it is beautiful, but dangerous, just like her.

Relationships

Nova: Lucien was assigned with testing her loyalty. Their relationship can become friendly or romantic.
Vesper: His ally. They work together in The Incineration Alliance.
Constantino Carbone: His clan's patriarch. Lucien does assignments for him.
Stefano: He works for the Magisterium but is a vampires’ ally. They manage to make a mutually beneficial deal.
Agnès: Ex-wife, who persuaded Lucien to become a vampire along with her. She is the matriarch of her own clan in France.
