Romance Club Wiki

Lane is the main character you play as in the book Heaven's Secret: Requiem.

Most choices you make for this character influence one of the following variables: Adaptability 🎒 (your ability to survive in this new world) and God's Voice 🙏 (achieve your goals by relying on humanity's better qualities and positive feelings) or Devil's Whisper 🐍 (achieve your goals in cunning ways by channeling darkness). These choices change the story, the interactions you have with other characters and the scenes you will be able to play.

You will also be able to unlock secret paths throughout the story by choosing mercy or cruelty choices. If you choose merciful options, in each season you will be able to recover a part of the memory and awaken a forgotten feeling in the main character. Although the stats are hidden, the walkthroughs feature the following symbols next to each choice needed to unlock the new branches: 💙 Compassion (Season 1) and 💛 Friendship (Season 2). These hidden paths are independent, you don't need to be on a certain route nor do you need to unlock one to unlock the other - you just need to choose the marked options for the path you want to unlock. Therefore, you can make the most diverse combinations according to your preferences.

About Lane

Lane is a cryptographer, specializing in deciphering ancient texts written in unknown languages. She worked on deciphering the Book of the Apocalypse at Siberia Military Research Base, a closed secret facility. But she had already managed to translate something, even before she began working at the base.

But something happened and the base she worked at collapsed underground for unknown reasons. Everyone who worked there was presumed dead, including Lane. At the site of the collapse, a rift opened, and from it came demons spawn that invaded the world to eradicate all life.

The story begins three years after the accident, when an elite task force is sent to the rift under orders from the new military science base to investigate the cause of the disaster and find the Book of the Apocalypse. But the squad find more than just the book, they find the main character, who only remembers that she was still at the base, working late into the night as usual, and then the next thing she knows, she is at the rift.

Later, you discover that Lane moved away from her family to work at the Siberia Base, desperately wanting that everything could still go back to the way it was before. She believed that some kind of prophecy or encrypted message could solve the cataclysms. Now, she believes nothing will ever be the same again, but she is determined to only translate what she needs from the Book, no matter what Dmitry’s squad wants or thinks of her. At first, she is cold, unemotional, and distant towards the squad, because she doesn’t trust them yet. But this can change depending on the player’s choices.

As the story progresses, it is revealed that Lane had an ordinary family, but that she and her parents didn’t get along. Her birth was unplanned, as her parents didn’t want to have a child; but her mother got pregnant late and by accident. And as her mother wasn’t sure she could get pregnant again at her age and for doctor’s recommendation, they decided to keep Lane. But it was a difficult birth, too. So much so that her mother couldn’t even bear to look at Lane and remained unhappy.

It took Lane’s parents some time to come to terms with having a child. All her life, they limited her, pressured her, and controlled her to prevent Lane from doing weird things. She was so disgusted by being there that she had to ran away to another continent; so, she applied to a university abroad after receiving a scholarship.

Lane decided to study cryptography because she is extremely interested in things forbidden, hidden, and unsolved by anyone before. After her return, nothing but routine awaited her. Translations and more translations until the cataclysms began.

She was called to Siberia almost immediately after the cataclysms began and she had to get used to everything pretty quickly as they didn’t give people much time to settle in. Lane was pulled out of her normal life, without a chance to properly say goodbye to her loved ones. And then she worked at Siberia for about a year before the base collapses.

Her work at Siberia Base was appealing to her. It was as if the Book of the Apocalypse had called her. Lane initially got her hands on the Book through a friend, that gave it to her and asked her to figure out its secrets. All Lane was capable of reading were a couple of symbols, but this was enough for her to be invited to Siberia Base later on.

From the end of S2 onwards, Lane begins to reveal in some scenes with love interests about her romantic past. You can find out that she had bad luck with relationships. Before working at the Siberia base, she only had one relationship, the first and last until joining the squad, and it ended very quickly. The guy was a few years older than her. At first, she wasn’t interested in being with him. She refused, but he pushed for it. They had something like a friendship, and he manipulated that. And when they started dating, she convinced herself he was a great choice, and that she had feelings for him.

Her ex-boyfriend couldn’t stand competition, and she let him control her. Eventually, he made sure that her few acquaintances and friends, along with her family, left her life and stopped contacting them. One day, he became a complete stranger and she realized that she didn’t need him at all, that she had wasted her life convincing herself of his importance. She got bored, and when she finally woke up, she realized how big her confines had grown and it was overwhelming for her. They were very different, and after she realized that she didn’t feel anything for him, she ran away. Only when she started to live again, she understood how much she had shrunk herself for the sake of being with him.

In S3, Ep1 Lane is questioned by Dmitry about the special abilities she has demonstrated. She reveals to the squad that she thinks the substance in her scar is somehow affecting her. She isn’t sure how it’s affecting her body, but inside it there’s a pathogen, the same that is in abomination blood. Before the Siberia base sank underground and she disappeared, nothing abnormal was happening to her. So, the surprise abilities must have emerged over the past three years, which she doesn’t remember. She thinks after the base collapsed, she ended up in a place where this scar was left on her. Lane doesn’t know how to use these abilities and what exactly she can do. Her body just seems to know what to do.

  • She didn’t have female friends in her past life, only acquaintances. For Lane, it is hard to fit into social norms, she has a spiritual pain that manifests itself in loneliness.
  • Training at the Siberia Base was once a regular part of her routine. But, depending on your choices, Lane can have started sports for about a year before the collapse of the Siberia base or studiously avoided sports in her life.
  • Summers in North Carolina are her least favorite time of year.
  • When Lane was a child, she was taught that everyone must prove that they’re worthy of respect, and that love must be earned.
  • Lane never liked the military, or anything connected with them. For her, they only inspired fear - because of their detachment from the world, strict hierarchy and conservatism. She thinks only the uniforms are beautiful, but not all of them.

  • Lane always wanted to go beyond the ordinary.
  • She always played alone when she was a child. And she always got sick at that time, too.
  • There is something in Lane that sets her apart from the rest: her consciousness.
  • Every time Lane touches her scar, something strange happens.
  • About the name Lane: The author wanted to pick a laconic, cold and reserved name. For her, Lane sounds like "rain". In her research, she also found that it symbolizes a special path.[1]
  • About Lane's room at Adam base: The reference for it was Lara's bedroom from the game Tomb Raider: Legend. As a child, the HSR's author often got stuck on some levels, and when it was too disturbing to go through them for the hundredth time after death, she went to the menu and ran around the estate - rearranged books in the library (unsuccessfully), changed Lara's clothes, worked out in the gym, swam in the pool[2]
  • The author shared a excerpt of the description of the main character used as inspiration to draw her sprites: "She is an introvert, behaves politely with others. Among the bad traits, one can highlight arrogance, denial of problems, nervousness and irritability. The main character can be two-faced and often say what they want to hear from her in order to achieve the desired result or, conversely, so as not to hurt the interlocutor with the truth. The look is penetrating, deep and thoughtful: she analyzes the situation around. The main character has a cold, noble appearance. The girl looks like the devil's wife and the messenger of God's holy will at the same time."[3]
