Iyar is a love interest in the book The Flower from Tiamat's Fire.
About Iyar[]
Iyar is a music teacher at the academy. He always has his lyre with him, a string instrument, and likes to plays music or recite ancient legends during conversations. He seems to have some medical knowledge. When Iyar is not teaching, he usually hangs out with Nikkal and her friends, showing off his goofy side.
Iyar's name means "second" because he was the second child found by a Sumerian wandering tribe called Nam-Lugal. They taught him to sing, to play instruments, to dance, to steal, to joke and all the legends in order to entertain people.
Iyar used to serve Shamash and Enlil of the Five, both musically and intimately. During a terrible battle against humans where he worked as a healer on the mages' side, he was too scared and tired to give shelter to a human girl that asked him for help. She later died on the battlefield and Iyar has felt guilty ever since, but Shamash and Enlil laughed it off and even insulted her. After that, he started singing songs about the Five, about the atrocities that happened during the war and how power hungry they actually are. As a result, Iyar was sentenced to death but was rescued by Kingu who hid him inside Chaos itself. Instead of killing Iyar, Chaos accepted him and he returned from it a few years later, forever changed. He was allowed to seek sanctuary in Niall's academy and the warden explained his connection to Chaos to the students and staff as a "special variation of water magic" in order to hide Iyar's true magic.
Over the course of the story, Iyar supports Nikkal's search for her missing brother. Together, they visit Ur, the capital, and face The Five. Iyar also decides to fight alongside Nikkal and her friends after Tiamat starts threatening to distroy the world as they know it.

- Sin: Also known as Kingu, one of The Five. He saved Iyar from certain death.

- Iyar is an orphan. He doesn't know his real family, but he was raised by the Nam-Lugal tribe. They had stopped near the forest, not far from his village, and in the morning they found one-year-old Iyar sleeping on the wheel of one of their carts. The Nam-Lugal tribe taught him songs, legends, and how to play musical instruments.
- Iyar's zodiac sign corresponds to Saggitarius.
- Ursa, the writer, mentioned that Iyar is 180cm tall.[1] However, his profile on VK and Facebook states his height as 5'9" (175cm).
- She also stated that if Iyar lived in the 21st century, he would listen to pop-rock like Coldplay and Toto.[2]
- Iyar is afraid to close his eyes in the dark. He always tries to sleep with some light nearby.[3]
- He doesn't have a favorite color but prefers bright shades.

Possible endings[]
- If Nikkal convinces Tiamat to spare the world and Iyar remains unharmed, they stay together. Thirty years later, they are still a happy couple and have a 9-year-old daughter named Ilu. The mages follow Nikkal’s lead, and together with Ashurbanipal, she unites them with the humans.
- If Nikkal convinces Tiamat to spare the world but Iyar gets injured, , they stay together. Thirty years later, they are still a happy couple but don't have any children. The mages follow Nikkal’s lead, and together with Ashurbanipal, she unites them with the humans.
- If Nikkal doesn't convince Tiamat to spare the world but Iyar remains unharmed, they stay together. Thirty years later, they are still a happy couple but don't have any children. Mages and humans continue to be divided, and Nikkal gets blamed for everything that had happened. Iyar notices a lot of things have changed in the world, like there's no more real music because it was fuelled by Chaos, and they worry about their future. A week later, Chaos arrives and destroys the world.
- If Nikkal doesn't convince Tiamat to spare the world and Iyar gets injured, they stay together but Nikkal is constantly tormented by nightmares of Chaos. The mages lose all their power and don't unite with the humans. Thirty years later, Nikkal still gets blamed for everything that had happened. In the end, Chaos comes and destroys the world.
