Most choices you make for your Main Character in this book influence one of the following variables: Spirit of the Sea 🌊, Spirit of the Wind 💨, Inspiration 💡, Pragmatism 🔗, and Morale 🕊️. These choices change the story, the interactions you have with other characters and the scenes you will be able to play.
The author confirmed that you can max or balance for both sets of stats, with Spirit of the Sea and Pragmatism being the dominant traits when it comes to stat checkpoints in a balanced playthrough.[1] Inspiration and Pragmatism refer to Lori's Leadership skills, and if these stats are balanced, they unlock the Balanced Leadership 💡🔗 path. If Lori's leadership skills are low, the path is called Weak Leader.
This book also offers relationship-improving choices both of a romantic and friendly nature.

- "Spirit of the Sea" and "Spirit of the Wind" reflect different world views. Wind is more spontaneous while Sea is more introspective.
- "Pragmatism" and "Inspiration" affect leadership style. Pragmatic leadership tends to be authoritative while Inspiration is collaborative.
- Leadership and Spirit stats can be balanced. High or Low Morale affects the characters resiliency and outlook concerning situations.

- Mira Kaplan was born in 2017 in Pomona, California. She wrote her memoir at the age of 56.
- The "Collapses" refer to a series of crises that occurred between 2037 and 2056, including wars, pandemics, and infrastructure failure.
- Consumer genetic "splicing" boomed in the early 2030's in a number of countries. Now, it is only common within walled cities and colonies.
- Traditional sailing and wooden vessels came back into vogue with the collapse of global infrastructure.
- A rapid collapse of the Earth's magnetic poles in the mid-21st century was instrumental in the destruction of the global infrastructure.
- Vanmet is a sprawling city-state spanning from the Strait of Georgia to Puget Sound and including the walled "Vanmet proper."
- Homeport was founded in 2088 by the Perez, Baker, Higgins, and Dixon families, who sailed there aboard the schooner Halcyon.
- Palladia was originally invented in 2061, although its formulation must be continually updated.
- Andre and Tosha Kaplan moved to Homeport in 2106, where they started a family and helped construct the Lodge.

- "Gen," adjective. Good, wholesome, pleasant. Etymology unknown.
- "Domelord," noun. A disparaging term for a privileged person. Originated as a slight against space colonists.
- "Stars and 'lites!" An expression of surprise or astonishment. The word "'lites" is a shortening of satellites.
- "Swye." Acronym. Colorful slang for behavior whereby a person jeopardizes something that is important to them.
