Dragan is a love interest in the book And the Haze Will Take Us.
About Dragan[]
The son of the village’s Elder, Dragan is a childhood friend of Lada and her twin sister Vereya.
As a child, Dragan was very close with his mother Venciena. One day, she suddenly stated that she wanted to get away from him because he is destined to face the hatred of the women he loves, and left to live as a hermit at the outskirts of the village. Confused and hurt, Dragan didn't know how to handle his feelings and, despite being drawn to his friend Lada, he started lashing out at her, pushing her away. While growing up, Dragan continued to treat Lada with distain or indifference, occasionally mocking her. He focused his attention on her twin sister Vereya instead, hiding behind his friendship with her, which leads to Lada wondering if Dragan might be in love with Vereya. His behavior hurts her deeply and she avoids him as much as she can. Over time, Vereya falls in love with Dragan but he doesn't even notice.
When Dragan gets Lada a beautiful pendant for her birthday, he pretends he only got it in exchange for a weapon and it doesn't mean anything, but it becomes more and more clear that his feelings for Lada are conflicted. After Vereya's mysterious death, Dragan tries to support Lada, irritating her even more. During Kupala Night, a holiday dedicated to the summer solstice, the two of them finally talk about their relationship and Dragan confesses his love for her before they kiss.
