About Dmitry

Dmitry is the general of the military science base Adam, located in Oxford. Adam was created to replace Siberia, the military research base that collapsed underground for reasons unknown. Three years after the accident, Dmitry’s elite task force is sent to the rift opened at the site of the collapse to investigate the cause of the disaster, and to find the Book of the Apocalypse in the snowy ruins.

The story begins when his squad goes to the city of Rotkov – the last outpost of humanity, situated in the depths of Siberia. They find more than just the Book; they find Lane (main character), who has “mysteriously risen from the dead” with no apparent memory. The squad takes her to their estate to find out who she is and what she was doing on the rift.

At first, Dmitry suspected Lane set up the collapse and were hiding there all the time, but then he dismisses this suspicion as he doesn’t find motives to incriminate her for now. Later, he assigns Lane a spot in his squad, even though he still doesn't believe in her. Dmitry thinks she's the only person who can help them figure out what's going on. He considers her a valuable asset to the squad.

In S1 finale, it is revealed that Anna is Dmitry's sister. And this explains the fraternal protective behavior that one has for the other. In fact, Anna thinks Dmitry just sees her as someone who needs to be protected. The fact is that he doesn’t trust the rest of the world. Dmitry is used to relying on himself, so he wants his sister to be close. He hopes that he can save her, protect her. He is afraid of someday failing to protect Anna.

Also in the final episode of S1, Dmitry puts his arm to prevent Lane from getting attacked by an infected monk, but ends up being bitten by it. When he realizes that he can transform into a monster, the General raises the gun to his temple but is prevented from pulling the trigger by Kira, who just in time manages to shoot him in the shoulder from afar, causing Dmitry to drop the gun.

In S2 you discover that, although Dmitry was bitten by an infected, there is not even a scar left on his skin, and he didn’t turn – but there is still no certainty that nothing will happen to him later. Donovan, founder of Adam base, says he cannot be used for experiments because Dmitry is her deadly weapon.

During S2, a person from Dmitry's past appears in the story, Yan, who was part of his old squad but disappeared. In S2, Ep8, Dmitry asks Yan what he is trying to achieve, why he decided to show up now, and if he decided to take revenge. Dmitry doesn’t trust him enough to just take him back to the squad. Yan responds that revenge doesn’t resurrect and that, even if Dmitry haven forgotten, they were friends and that he doesn’t blame him for anything - in which Dmitry says that he blames himself every time he sees Yan’s face. Yan says that he wants to help with the Book and that Dmitry can trust him.

In S2, Ep9 Dmitry and Yan discuss what happened between them in the past. It is revealed that Yan and Pavel, another former subordinate of Dmitry, were wounded when they returned from a mission on the site of infection. Black veins were already showing on Pavel so Dmitry decided to shoot him in the head to save the others. Yan believes that Dmitry was cruel and did not think about the many years of friendship, shooting Pavel without a thought or second chances; and that he only survived because Dmitry missed the shot, leaving a scar on his face. After they fight, Yan realizes that Dmitry has been carrying Pavel's tag since that day. Dmitry then tells him that until he finds out which side Yan is on, he doesn't dare to talk about Pavel anymore.

In S3, Ep1 Dmitry decides to give Yan a squad dog tag. He wants to show that he is willing to try starting over, that he believes his old friend hasn’t turned into a monster, and that he is extending his hand to him. But after he sees Yan sewing dead skin from the abominations into his wounds, Dmitry tucks the dog tag into his pocket, probably regretting giving in to sentimentality as he was about to accept a person he knows nothing about, possibly endangering the squad, since abomination blood can turn a person into an infected. Yan tells him that after the abominations tore off his skin, the wound healed, but the area became keratinized, and it begins to come apart if he doesn’t fasten it. And nothing holds the edges together except the abomination’s skin, he already tried everything.

If you are on Dmitry’s path, Lane can ask him in S2, Ep10 why he is against her talking with Anna. He answers that it’s not like that, that he wants Anna to have friends, but that she is stubborn and rebellious. According to him, as soon as she gets encouragement, she loses control of herself. Dmitry doesn’t want Anna to hurt herself, and believes that if he gives her everything she wants, she will destroy herself. It’s hard for him to keep her at a distance even from himself because Anna is all he has left. And that is why he is willing to do everything he can to keep her safe, even if she hates him.
