About Devi

Devi is the youngest child and only daughter of the Sharma family. The Sharmas are the third most influential family in the Dozen, the ruling class of Calcutta. The Sharmas are well loved in Bengal for their mines which enriched the families and communities with well paying jobs and their employees never going hungry. They have over 600 employees and mine many rare and valuable gemstones.

Devi's parents died during a previous uprising against the British Empire, and she was mainly raised by her older brother Kairas. She recently returned to her home from Bombay where she was receiving an education. After the death of her brother, Kamal Rai became her guardian and advocate, helping educate her and supporting her claim to become the head of the Sharma family. The Dozen gave Devi five years to learn the family business and prove that she was worthy to be head, otherwise the position would go to a distant male relative.

The Sharmas are close with the Rai family, and she considers Amrita Rai a close friend. She is also friends with Radha and Saraswati Basu, who are the same age. Devi also likes to ride her horse, Deimos, much to the concern of her brother and Aishwarya.
