D'Mario Jelani

King D'Mario is a love interest in the book Heart of Trespia.

About D'Mario[]

He is a ruler of Rajahili, one of the four kingdoms that attended MC's coronation. Her uncle Duke Osmont suggested he would be a good match and their alliance would greatly benefit Trespia. King D’Mario ascended the throne when he was 15, after his parents’ death. In spite of his young age, he has ruled for many years and endured many usurping attempts from Rajahilian royals. All these events made him an even stronger king.^[1]

Rajahilians believe that those who lead must show the way, to set an example. D'Mario takes this belief seriously and when a battle rages, he will always be at the front. While most powerful people are born privileged, D'Mario earned the respect and loyalty he receives from his people.

D'Mario was and continues to be impressed by MC's wisdom, courage and beauty. After Ellaire lost her throne he proclaimed himself as her ally and offered his support if she needed it. At first, the reason was not clear, but at the end of Season 2 he explains to Ellaire that he also had to win back his throne. While Ellaire is trying to figure out her next move, D'Mario has offered her and her friends sanctuary at his palace.

At the end of Season 2, Ellaire's departure is growing near and D'Mario reveals more of his story about how he reclaimed the throne. D'Mario was the youngest of three, he had an older brother and an older sister. His parents crowned him as king at the age of 15 before their voyage across the Unresting Sea knowing they might not return. Because of his age, his siblings did not consider him a rival and it allowed him to have a close relationship with both of them as a kid. However, after D'Mario ascended the throne, his siblings saw him as their enemy and worked together to have him assassinated, almost succeeding at one point. While D'Mario was recovering from the latest attempt, his brother usurped the throne and locked his sister in a tower. D'Mario hid his recovery from everyone at the palace and executed his brother in front of his subjects. Then he banished his sister from Rajahili out of mercy and pity.

In Season 3, D'Mario is supportive of Ellaire, while also allowing her space to make the hard decisions she needs to make. There is a mutual respect evident between the two, especially when Ellaire arrives in Xael for the Grand Summit. He makes sure to be at the entrance of the Castle to greet her when Queen Megaris won't, does not reveal her weakness to Prince Alaric, and then, in private, gives her the care she needs.

This does not take away from the fact that he is still the ruler of a country. He needs to put his people before himself and regardless of feelings of kindness towards Ellaire, he still takes the Grand Summit seriously and requests an extra day to review the evidence and come to a decision alongside King Ozer and King Leoric.

When the Grand Summit goes horribly, he returns back to Rajahili but continues offering Ellaire advise and support from afar. After the Xael soldier attacks King D'Mario meets Ellaire and King Leoric at Maith to discuss strategy and figure out the best way to fight back against Queen Megaris and Xael.

Possible Endings[]

Romance path: Four years after Ellaire and D'Mario got married, a palace is finally built on the border their kingdoms share. They both vow to dedicate two days a week together at that palace, the rest of the time they are at their own palace, ruling their kingdoms. Assemblies have started being conducted regarding the succession of safety of their future heirs.
