Cain is a love interest in the book Heaven's Secret: Requiem.
About Cain
Cain is an angel who saves Lane (main character) from the rift at the beginning of the story. Later you discover that he is helping Dmitry’s squad for reasons still unknown, as it appears that he has his own motives.
He has aristocratic features, perfect face and toned athletic figure. Cain also has a special aura - he can change and fill the atmosphere when he enters a room, and the people want to capture his interest.
Cain has his own agenda. For some reason it is important to him to discover the secrets of the Book of the Apocalypse. And when he realizes that Lane is capable of solving them, he makes a deal with her. He says they can help each other; if Lane translates the Book, Cain will protect her.
If you are improving a romantic relationship with him, sometimes Cain treats Lane in a human-like manner - intuitive, protective and anxious. But he is still a blind spot: hidden and hard to understand.
In a diamond scene of S1, Ep5 Pileon hints that Cain went against his own family. But Cain doesn't let Pileon continue talking about these rumors. Lane realizes that Cain has a big secret that is preventing him from moving on and it’s drowning him in darkness. But she doesn’t know if he doesn’t want to be judge or if it just too painful for him to remember his past.
If you take his diamond choice from S1, Ep9 Cain tells Lane he once met a woman whose thoughts were much aligned with his own - they weren’t rosy, and sometimes were quite nauseating. She amazed him because he couldn’t believe that someone could share such feelings. So, he took a closer look, as he wanted to get to know her better (but now he thinks he shouldn’t have). But she disappeared, and he is not sure if she wants to be found.
In S1 finale, you discover that Cain has a second hypostasis. In this form, he has a second pair of wings and seems to have no control over himself, enjoying the pain that he causes and destroying everything in his way. With a predatory grin, his eyes lack of compassion and burn with a bright scarlet fire incinerating everything within him. If you his diamond scene from S2, Ep7 you discover that Cain uses this superpower when a situation gets out of hand - but it takes too much in return, so he tries not to use it. The other immortals don’t have this same “specialness”, Cain’s circumstances are a bit unusual. He got his power from his brother, and a certain circumstance strengthened it. But he doesn’t like it, and that is why it is so hard for him. He never told anyone about it.
In S2, Ep9 Lane comes to the conclusion that Cain is the Cult's informant. He says he had to awaken her rage, to speed up the process for her to master her powers - and taking the Book from her was the right decision. He believes that now that Lane has grown stronger, she has the chance to change the course of events. Cain tells her that he only did that out of necessity as he isn’t freed while he is bound by a contract. While it restrains him, he cannot guarantee Lane’s safety. He says he can’t tell her the truth, and that it would hurt her.
In the next episode, Lane persuades Cain to answer her some questions about himself. He reveals that he is bound by a seal and can’t give her some direct answers. Cain tells Lane he was supposed to help start the Cult process so its influence would spread beyond one city. However, lately, he has begun to notice someone else’s influence.
Cain also reveals that after his family died, he couldn’t return to Heaven. For a long time, he wandered, wanting to tear out the unwelcome powers that clung to him. He found someone who could rid him of the problem and made a pact that wasn’t worth making, becoming a puppet. Cain spent a lot of time on Earth, trying to find ways to deny the power and the pact, but all to no avail. He confesses to Lane that if he tells her everything he will be called away, and someone else will take his place.
In S3, Ep1 Dmitry tells Lane that - before the current squad was formed - he, Anhea and Pileon encountered Cain enraged and destroying everything around him with bursts of energy, and without awareness of what was happening. They tried everything, but nothing could subdue him. After many attempts, the immortals finally succeeded in suppressing his energy. When Cain regained consciousness, he seemed confused and scared, as if he realized he might have been wandering in a daze for years.
After that, he left and only returned a couple of months before Lane appeared. Cain asked to join the squad, saying that if there was a repeat of what happened before, he wanted people nearby who could stop him. It turned out Cain had spent more time among humans than other immortals. He knew more about religions, books, and ancient texts than anyone else. And the squad needed his knowledge and strength. Before Lane arrived, all hope rested on him. And, for some reason, Cain believed the Book would be found and translated – as if he already knew.
