Amen is a love interest in the book Song of the Crimson Nile.

About Amen[]

Amen is the supreme epistates, an elite member of a group of hunters tasked by the pharaoh to hunt shesmu. Amen is rumored to have a special power that allows him to track down shesmu. During a stop in Hermopolis on the way to Thebes, Amen encounters Eva in the streets and later at the temple of Thoth. Before leaving, Amen enlisted members of the temple to assist them in Thebes.

In Thebes he has strict orders for those traveling with them to try and prevent the spread of disease. He is annoyed by Eva's antics when he catches her outside at night and when she has dubious writing skills despite claiming to train as a scribe.

It is later revealed that Amen is the child of two dark magicians, and witnessed their murder when he was a child. At some point in time, Amen enlisted in the pharaoh's troops at the same time as Titian, a fellow hunter. They moved up the ranks together and performed better than the others and showed great skill. Amen strove for the position of supreme epistates, and Titian was glad to be his right hand.^[2]
