About Agatha Harrington[]
Agatha is a willful and free-spirited woman who gets involved in a murder mystery in 1900.
She's the daughter of Charles, the Earl of Harrington, and grew up in Elvaston Castle, Derbyshire. At the beginning of the story, Agatha is living in Hall Palace, London.
Her father’s hero is Eugène François Vidocq, a French criminal turned criminalist who is regarded as the first private detective. Charles admires his intelligence, bravery, and resourcefulness. Agatha has read all his letters and the books Vidocq recommended, and dreams of becoming the first female detective.
On top of that, Agatha always wanted to spend her life in London because her mother Elizabeth, who lived in the capital before she got married, would tell her about it every day. Moving to the countryside was a struggle for Elizabeth and she wanted to come back more than anything. About a year before the story starts, Agatha's father Charles finally bought a house in London and the family felt truly happy living there. Unfortunately, only a few months later Agatha found out that Charles gave his money to some fraudsters and had lost their fortune, making it necessary to sell their house again. After a heated debate, Agatha managed to convinve him to rent a more modest house called Hall Place for herself and her mother for one year - after that year, she's supposed to either get married or join her father back in Scotland. Ever since that, Agatha has been looking for a way to open her own detective agency and earn enough money to be independed.
After witnessing a mysterious death at a ball, Agatha and her companion Eve begin their own investigation, trying to solve the crime and building a good reputation. Together with Alexander, the Duke of Clarance, his sister Rachel of Wales, their friend Ellia and a Japanese investigator called Samuel, they follow a trail of strange deaths and spooky ghost stories. When she finds out that her father has exaggerated their finances and she and her mother have to move out of Hall Place, she asks Rachel for an invitation to live with them at Chesterfield House. While working on the case, Agatha also meets Ezra, the police commissioners son, who seems to be involed in a lot of schemes. The group continues investigating and is finally able to catch the culprit. Because of her trust issues, Agatha reluctantly gets ready to move out of the manison again, but Alexander and Rachel want her and Eve to stay.
At the beginning of the second Season, Agatha meets Queen Victoria, grandmother of Alexander and Rachel. Victoria asks Agatha to find her sapphire coronet which was stolen, apparently by a dead man named Severin Bastendorff. During her investigation, she encounters Christopher and Edward Cadogan, twins who perform as acrobats at the same circus Ellia used to work at. After discovering the coronet at a poor man's house in the London slums, Agatha tries to puzzle all the pieces together and realizes that the twins were the ones who stole the coronet and planted it with the help of a trained mouse. After confronting them, Christopher and Edward explain that the leader of their circus wanted to rob the royal treasury, saying that otherwise there wouldn't be enough money to survive the winter. They knew he was lying but still offered to go through with it in order to make sure the robbery won't fail and destroying their home. in the end, they have to flee the city and Agatha gets recognition from the Queen for solving the mystery. In addition, the Queen asks her to join the royal family in Scotland for their annual Halloween celebration.
For the third Season, Agatha and her friends travel to Scotland and Agatha returns to Balmoral Castle where her father resides.
